The Last of the Pioneers.
In the Fort Atkinson notes of this week is given an obituary of Mrs. Gottlob Krumm. The event deserves more than ordinary mention. Sim is the last of the senior members of the earliest pioneers. The Campbells came to Bloomfield township June 7, 1848, and the Krumm brothers followed them on the 29th day of the same month, locating in Washington township near by Fort Atkinson. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Day came to Decorah in the spring following. Only the descendants of these pioneers remain with us and some of these are scattered over many states of the Union. The main facts as regards the life of Mrs. Krumm are told in the Fort Atkinson notes. We know that this veteran mother left to her children a memory of all that was good and true and womanly. Her home was a rallying point to which they came at least once each year, and now they have gathered for the last time. Only a daughter remains at the old homestead.

Died:—Aug. 12, at her home one mile south of Fort Atkinson, Mrs. Gottlob Krumm, at the age of 86 years. Regina Fisher was born May 7, 1819, at Holtzmaden, Wurttemburg, Germany. On June 20th, 1845, she was united in marriage to Gottlob Krumm. In 1848 they emigrated to America, and on June 29th of that year they came to Fort Atkinson where they have had a continuous residence. Mr. Krumm preceded his wife in death, having died Jan. 13, 1892, at the age of 74 years. To the union were born eight children, seven of whom survive, one daughter having died in 1863. The surviving children are Christian, of El Reno, Okla., Mrs. Jacob Weiler and Mrs. Henry Summers of Charles City, Mrs. M. C. Lawrence of Arlington, Messrs. George and Lewis of Tilden, Neb., and Miss Rose of this place. Mrs. Krumm was a true Christian, a kind and loving mother, and a true friend, and was dearly beloved by all who knew her. All the hardships of pioneer life were known to her, and in many ways she aided new settlers to start. The funeral services were held from the M. E. church at 1:00 P M. to-day, a Congregational minister from Charles City conducting the services. Interment was made at the M. E. cemetery, and a host of friends of the deceased followed her to her last resting place, in that way paying her a last tribute. Those who were here from out of town to attend the funeral were:—Messrs, and Mds. Jacob Weller, Henry Summers, Schultz, all of Charles City; Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Lawrence and children of Arlington; Jerome Weiler and little daughter of Empire, Minn.; Mrs. Jacob Fisher of Leroy; Louis and George Krumm of Tilden, Neb.; Christian Krumm of El Reno, Okla.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Krumm of Mason City, Mr. and Mrs. Strand of Decorah, and J.
