THE SILENT REAPER.
Mrs. John French died at the family home in Frankville township Sunday from paralysis after an illness of two years. Her maiden name was Rachel Davis and she was born in Indiana June 11, 1841. She was married forty-one years ago and came to Winneshiek county two years later. Her husband, three daughters and one son survive her. The funeral was held Tuesday, Rev. M. Willett officiating, and the remains were buried at Frankville.

Mrs. John French died at her home six miles west of town Sunday afternoon at 5 o’clock after a lingering illness. The funeral services will be held here Tuesday at the M. E. church with interment here also. Further particulars next week.

Rachel Davit was born in Ripley Co., Indiana June 10, 1841, and died July 23 of catarrh of the brain and paralysis. She was married, to John French in November, 1863, and in 1865 came to Winneshiek county. One son and four daughters were born to them. The eldest, Mrs. Sarah Coon, met her death by fire at her home in Estherville about ten years ago. The mother never fully recovered from the shock caused by the awful tidings and gradually declined in health from year to year, until she became helpless, but through it all has been a patient sufferer. In her early girlhood she united with the Baptist church and has lived a consistent Christian life, being a devoted mother to her children and a true and loving wife. There survive to mourn their loss the husband, Mrs. Maude Coon of Estherville, Mrs. Sophia Monroe and Mrs. Carrie Hughes and Tom on the home farm, also one sister—Mrs. Ammi Smith —and one brother;—John Davis, of Cleveland. The funeral services were held at Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon, with burial in the village cemetery. Rev. Willett of Decorah conducted the services. The family wish
