Geo. Merrill passed away Sunday afternoon at his home in Saratoga Township, after an illness of several weeks resulting from a general breakdown caused by advancing years; Mr. Merrill's age being somewhere in the eighties.

MERRILL:
Geo. Merrill was born in Oneida Co., New York, Oct. 22, 1826, and passed away at his home in Saratoga on Nov. 25, 1906, aged 80 years and one month. In 1849, he moved to Belvidere, Ill., and in 1852 came to Allamakee County where he resided three years when he entered business in Decorah and later retiring from this settled on a farm in Winneshiek County. He sold his farm there in 1880, came to Saratoga where he has since resided, respected by all his neighbors and friends, and honored by the people of the county by his election as one of its Supervisors, a position held by him with benefit to the county and credit to himself.
On the 25th of December, 1853, he was united in marriage with Miss Nancy P. Treat. Eight children were born to this union, seven of whom survive their parents, one dying in infancy. Those who survive are Emma Dell Hawes, of Santa Cruz, Calif, Hattie C. Chamberlain, of Altedena, Cal., F. A. Merrill, of Ione, Cal., F. B. and A. G. Merrlll, of Allison, Ia., B. B. Merrill, of Hartford, Conn., and G. W. Merrill, living on the old farm in Saratoga.
The funeral was held at the late home on Tuesday, conducted by Rev. Gammons, and the remains were taken to Decorah for interment by the side of his wife, who passed away about four years ago.
