Rose Gloria Kittleson, age 94, died on January 24, 2019 at Wellington Place in Decorah.

Private family services to be held at a later date.

She was born March 20, 1924 in Waukon, IA to Guy Hilmer and Hilma Sophia (Nelson) Ahlstrom. She attended school in Waukon graduating from Waukon High School in 1941. After graduating, she went to Washington DC as a nanny to family from Waukon who was moving there. She later took a job at US News & World Report as a typist. She returned to Iowa in 1944 and worked in the ration office in Waukon during WW 2. She was transferred to the Decorah office doing price checks in various businesses to make sure they were in compliance with the regulations. It was there that she met her husband of 55 years. She married Kenneth (Kenny) Kittleson on May 31, 1945. They purchased their farm near Bluffton in 1951. They had one daughter Kris T. After Rose’s sister passed away, she and Kenny brought her five children to the farm every summer and during Christmas vacations for several years. While Kenny stayed home to take care of the farm, she took all the kids on tenting vacations to the five Great Lakes, Black Hills and Washington DC. She and Kenny were very active in the Methodist church where they held many offices. Rose was church secretary and played the organ for over 20 years. She also worked at Ben Franklin. But her main job was being a wife, mother and aunt. Rose loved to be outdoors and had a large terraced flower garden that Kenny made for her. She spent many hours tending it in the summer. She had 3 riding mowers and mowed 12-15 hours a week. She moved to Wellington Assisted Living in March of 2012 and to Wellington Nursing Home in June of 2016. She made sure she made it to bingo 3 times a week. She loved to read Westerns and did the crossword puzzles in several different papers.

Rose is survived by her daughter Kris T Kittleson of Decorah. Grandchildren: Dr. Melissa (Jeff) Milligan of Ohio, and Travis (Josie Smith) Greentree of Decorah. Five very special nephews and their families: Steve, Mike, Kevin, Joel and Tim Theis. One brother-in-law John Theis.

Father and mother-in-law: Elon and Anna (Hobbit) Kittleson. Brothers-in-law: Harold (Browni) Kittleson, Glenn Kittleson and Paul (Jeanette) Kittleson.
