Obituary - Mr. A. D. Paul, well known in this town as a citizen, departed this life at his home in Austin, Minn., on Friday night of last week. Mr. P. had been ailing for a year or more. Last spring he removed to St. Louis, in hope of regaining his health, but being disappointed in this, he returned to Decorah last fall, where he partially recovered; so much so that he resolved to go into business at Austin. His health has been poor for some time past, but not so much so as to confine him to his house. Indeed, the day before his death he had been out of doors, and evinced no unnatural symptoms. When about to retire for the night, he remarked to his wife, "what a pleasant night," went to bed and died at eleven o'clock.
His remains were brought to Decorah for interment. He was buried in the use of the Masonic forms of burial, a large number of the Brotherhood being present and taking part, and a large assembly of citizens being present to testify their respect to the departed dead. His Phelps cemetery tombstone has: Almon D. Sen.
Died: Jan. 27, 1861 Aged 36 Yrs 9 Mos 17 Dys
