Joanne L. Leistikow, age 86, of Decorah, Iowa, died Saturday morning, December 8, 2018 at her home in Decorah.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, at Burr Oak Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, with the Rev. Matt Larson officiating. Burial will be in Burr Oak Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 11 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, and on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m., one hour before the service, at Burr Oak Lutheran Church.

Joanne Louise (Ness) Leistikow was born on August 17, 1932 in the Spring Grove, Minnesota Hospital, the daughter of Harold and Laura (Grindeland) Ness. She grew up on the family farm near Highlandville, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Big Canoe Lutheran Church. She attended the Highlandville School through the 8th grade and graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1951.

She was united in marriage to Stanley Rex Dolash on December 8, 1951. They lived in several places and then settled in Postville, Iowa where their daughter Rhonda was born. Then they moved to Decorah and their daughters Cathy and Linda were born. They later divorced. Joanne was part of starting Nisse Nursery in Decorah and was one of the first teacher associates there. She then went to work at Security Agency in Security Bank and Trust in 1975 and retired from there in 1997.

She was united in marriage to Donald Leistikow on August 2, 1980 at Burr Oak Lutheran Church in a private family celebration. After retiring they went to Yuma, Arizona during the winter months for over 20 years. Joanne enjoyed reading, going to her grandchildren’s events, and was an avid bridge player. She also enjoyed traveling with her sisters, Katie and Lorraine, including their trips to Norway and Alaska. She loved to golf, bowl, quilt, go shopping and was a huge fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Laura; her ex-husband Rex; and a step-son Randy Leistikow.

Joanne is survived by her husband Donald; three children: Rhonda (Brad) Powell of Pickerington, Ohio, Cathy (Randy) Kuehner of Decorah and Linda (Peter) Blodgett of Decorah; five grandchildren: Ross Powell, Dane (Samantha) Powell, Hannah Kuehner, Evan Blodgett and Jared Blodgett; two step-children: Mike (Kathy) Leistikow of Decorah and Vickie (Dennis) Curtin of Waukon; four step-grandchildren: Nathan (Tracy) Leistikow, Erin (Dustin) Vercande, Ben Kruse and Adam (Ashley) Kruse; two sisters, Lorraine Weis and Katie Kelly of Decorah; and many nieces and nephews.

She loved her family and friends dearly and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to W.M.C. Hospice, 901 Montgomery Street, Decorah, IA 52101.
