She was the second oldest of ten children born to Anton and Rosalia (Timp) Elsbernd. She was baptized at St. John Catholic Church and attended St. John School in Fort Atkinson. Marie was married on June 7, 1939 to Gerhard Joseph Setter at St. John Catholic Church. They moved to the Setter farm four mile north of St. Lucas where they farmed for thirty-one years and were members of St. Luke Catholic Church. They retired on April 1, 1970 to Fort Atkinson and were members of St. John Catholic Church. Marie enjoyed quilting, crocheting and baking. Her family enjoyed the rewards of her homemade cooking and baking, especially kolaches. Marie made many quilts for her children and each grandchild received a quilt along with other family members. She was an excellent cook and helped at wedding and funeral dinners. She was a member of the St. Lucas American Legion Auxiliary #691 since 1952, the Fort Atkinson Catholic Society of Foresters Court #657 since 1936, serving as recording secretary from 1997 to 2006 and then as president until March 2015 and was also past president of the Legion. Marie lived in her home in Fort Atkinson until 95 ½ when she entered the nursing home where she enjoyed all of the activities, especially Bingo. Her family was important to her. She very much enjoyed the visits from family and friends. Most enjoyable to her were playing cards and outside trips in the courtyard to the check the garden, flowers and of course, the weeds that needed to be pulled.
