Services for Dr. Bernard D. Howland, 65, of 2606 Forest Road, Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Davenport. Burial will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah, Iowa. Visitation is 3 to 9 p.m. today at Runge Morturary. Memorials may be made to the church or to American Cancer Association.

He died Sunday at Osteopathic Hospital. Dr. Howland graduated from the Osteopathic Medical and Surgery College, Des Moines. For several years he practiced in Decorah and Waukon, Iowa. For the past 21 years he had been practicing bariatrics in Davenport.

He was born in Gilbert, Iowa. He married Hazel M. Woldum in 1940 in Decorah.

Dr. Howland was a member of the American Osteopathic Association; past president of the American Society of Bariatrics Physicians and the Davenport Optimists Club; past exalted ruler of the BPOE, No. 443, Decorah, and an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, serving several years on the board of directors.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Pam Carstens, Davenport; two grandchildren, and a sister Ester Lorensen, Garwin, Iowa.
