David "Dave" Hegg, age 72, of Waterville, IA, died on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago Street, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Phillip Olson presiding.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave in Decorah and also after 11:00 a.m., at the church on Wednesday morning. The Schluter-Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

David Ralph Hegg was born on September 10, 1946 the son of Ralph and Esther (Hoyme) Hegg in Decorah, IA. He was baptized October 20, 1946 and confirmed June 5, 1960 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church near Decorah. Dave graduated from Decorah High School in 1964. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1966 and served until 1969. Dave married Elaine Myhre on August 17, 1974 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. After marriage, Dave took over the family dairy farm as a fourth-generation farmer. He farmed for many years before starting his own business, Pest Management of Northeast Iowa. He served clients all over the Tri State area; mostly dairy barns. He and Elaine also owned and operated "Peony Place" Bed and Breakfast in Calmar, IA for a while. Dave loved carpentry and working with his hands. Dave would often say, “When I die, it’ll be with a tool in my hand.” He and Elaine enjoyed putting in perennial flower gardens and refinishing antiques. He also built sets for the New Minowa Players Theatre Group (of which he was a member), for the Decorah High School and sets for the Luther College Opera. Dave was a member of the Winneshiek County Farm Bureau Board, serving on many committees and as president. He was in a bowling league for a few years and enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Minnesota Vikings. He sang in the church choir, and for a short time, he sang with the Luren Singers. He loved his pets, especially his German Shepherds Gus and Bandit.

David is survived by his wife Elaine. His brother Durwin’s children: Lisa Hague; Mindy Ali, and Eric Hegg. Cousins: Elaine (Orbeck) Hewitt, Phyliss (Orbeck) Frank, Howard Hoyme, Doris (Hoyme) Peterson, Donna (Hoyme) Gilbert, and Chris Hoyme. Brother-in-law: Ron (Pat) Myhre, Waucoma, IA. Sisters-in-law: Marian SerVoss, Denver, CO; Susan (Louie) DeRose, Denver, CO; Sandra (Warren) Lacina, Burnsville, MN; Betty Myhre, Charles City, IA; Carolyn (Mike) Shimak, Cresco, IA along with nieces and nephews from Elaine’s side.

David was preceded in death by his parents: Ralph and Esther (Hoyme) Hegg. Two brothers: Durwin and Ronnie. Father and mother-in-law: Clarence and Ruby (Bonnette) Myhre. Brother-in-law: Toby SerVoss. Elaine believes that Dave is spending his time in Heaven with their daughter they never got to meet here on Earth.
