Helen Havel, age 99, of Calmar, Iowa, died on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, April 13, 2018, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, IA with Rev. Robert Gross presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar on Friday morning.
Helen Marie (Svoboda) Havel was born on April 9, 1919 to James and Mary (Moudry) Svoboda in Cresco, IA. Helen attended and graduated from grade school in Cresco. Helen married Arnold Havel on June 18, 1940 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, IA. After several years they started Havel Plumbing and Heating where Helen worked as the bookkeeper until their retirement in 1980. She enjoyed gardening, cooking (Kolaches were her specialty), needlework and crafts, bus tours, playing bingo and most of all her family.
Helen’s survivors include her two sons: Larry (Marcia) Havel, Osage, IA and Robert (Sara) Havel, Fairfax, IA. Ten grandchildren: Todd (Brenda) Havel, Troy (Kori) Havel, Jeff (Jessie) Havel, Kris (Kip) Peters, Melissa (Darin) Tussler, Jason (Michelle) Havel, Lisa Havel, Stacy (Brad) Bell, Tracy (Dan) Klees and Jenny Havel. Twenty-seven great grandchildren: Tyler, Collin, Kelsey, Nathan, Travis, Shannon, Lewis, Braylon, Blayze, Brynley, Brianna, Maggie, Drew, Kaile, Bryson, Katheryn, Allison, Liberty, Delaney, Danielle, Caeden, Jillian, Lauren, Taylor, Jacob, Jaliea and Jackson. Four sisters: Irene Cervenka, Fort Atkinson, IA; Gertrude Boddicker, Blairstown, IA; Mary Ann (Bob) Bader, Protivin, IA; Agnes (Ronald) Dostal, Protivin, IA.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband: Arnold. Parents: James and Mary (Moudry) Svoboda. Son: Charles Havel. Three brothers: Raymond (Mary) Svoboda, James Svoboda and Bernard Svoboda. Sister: Alice Svoboda. Brothers-in-law: Leonard Cervenka, David Boddicker, Richard (Carolyn) Havel and John (Alice) Havel. Two great grandchildren: Alex and Dominic. Father and mother -in-law: John and Agnes (Barloon) Havel.
