Harold Swenson
COLUMBIA, MO - Harold S. Swenson, 79, Columbia, MO, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002 in Columbia or cancer.
Services will be held at a later date. The body was cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home, Columbia:
Harold S. Swenson was born March 30, 1922 in Calmar, Iowa, the son of Adolph and Malla (Njus) Swenson. On Sept. 6, 1947 he married Bernice Schneberger in Iowa City. He served in the Army Air Corps in Italy during World War II. Harold later earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the University of Iowa, then began his teaching career in a one-room country schoolhouse in northern Iowa. He was art supervisor of Webster Groves, MO Public Schools for nearly 30 years and was an adjunct instructor at Webster University and St. Louis Community College at Meramec.
He was an artist, painter and wood sculptor whose work was exhibited by the Columbia Art League. He was also a member of galleries in Kirkwood, MO, Louisville, KY and Hartford, CT. After retiring, Harold taught art classes at Gatesworth Retirement Community in University City.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice; three sons, Michael Swenson, Rocheport, MO, Timothy Swenson, Columbia, MO and Robert Swenson, Greenway, AR; two grandchildren; four brothers, Alfred Swenson, Osage, Carl Swenson, Loveland, CO, Donald Swenson, Alta Vista and Joseph Swenson, Shanks, WV.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
