Sylvia Hayek, age 86, of Ft. Atkinson, IA died Friday, February 23. 2018 at the Patty Elwood Center at Cresco.

Mass of Christian Burial will be11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, IA with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding, burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville with a rosary at 5:00 and scripture service at 7:00 there will also be visitation after 10:00 at the church on Wednesday morning.

Sylvia Marie (Frana) Hayek was born on April 26, 1931 the daughter of George and Cecelia (Kuhn) Frana on the family farm near Lourdes, IA. She graduated from Riceville High School in 1949. Sylvia married Raymond Hayek on June 20, 1950 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes. Together they farmed south of Spillville, IA. In 1985 Sylvia moved to Fort Atkinson, IA. She worked at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah and volunteered at the hospital. Sylvia enjoyed playing bingo, quilting, baking, gardening, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed collecting tea pots. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville.

Sylvia is survived by two sons: Allen (Mary) Hayek, Ronald (Julie) Hayek. Daughter: Arlene (Charles) Lynch all of Ft. Atkinson, IA. Grandchildren: Philip (Amanda Fischer) Hayek, Jackson (Amy) Hayek, Jonathan (Miranda) Hayek, Jennifer (Shane) Lenahan, Alexandra (Brandon) Albertson and Dominic (Carlee Knutson) Hayek. Great grandchildren: Chase, Brynllee, Brody and Brogan Hayek, Mackenzie, Madilynn and Theodore Albertson, Ray, Vaughn and Wes Hayek, Jase and Justine Lenahan Siblings: Gladys Ferrie, Harmony, MN; David (Jacqueline) Frana, Walker, MN; Eileen (Patrick) Sweeney, Elma, IA. Sister-in-law: Marcella Blong, Mason City, IA.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Raymond on April 24, 1981. Son: Gary Hayek on November 27, 2015. Siblings: Leona (Joseph) Stortz, Lawrence Frana, Marie (Alvin) Mashek. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Raphael Ferrie, Edith (Hugo) Balk, Adolph (Delores) Hayek, Levina (George) Lentz, Edward (Marcella) Hayek and Marcus Blong.
