Rites Held For Mrs. T. Monroe

Funeral services were held at the Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, for Mrs. Thomas Monroe, 71, who passed away Wednesday evening, August 21, at the Decorah Hospital following an illness of about two weeks. Rites were in charge of The Rev. Arthur J. Tole. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia.

Mrs. Thomas (Ella Anna Schroeder) Monroe was born March 13, 1897, in rural Postville, the daughter of William and Dorothea Loeffler Schroeder. She was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on June 6, 1897 and confirmed by the Rev. Kuehne at the same church on April 9, 1911.

She was married to Thomas Monroe on November 9, 1921 at St. Paul's Lutheran parsonage. One daughter and two sons were born to them: Vila Mae (Mrs. Ralph Schultz) of Ossian; and Merle and Lloyd Monroe of Castalia.

The deceased was a housewife all of her life. She was an active member of Castalia Zion Lutheran Church; a member of the Rebecca Circle and the Embroidery Club.

Mrs. Monroe was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Louis, William and Edward, and one granddaughter, Julie Monroe.

In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Schara and Mrs. Amanda Kohrs of Waukon, 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
