Adeline D. Lillibridge, age 98, of Decorah, IA, died Friday, January 12, 2018 at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Decorah Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Sorenson and Pastor Brenda Crossfield officiating. Private Family Inurnment will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.

Visitation will begin on Saturday at 10:00 A.M., one hour before the service, at the church.

Adeline is survived by her four children: Mary Welker of Houston, TX, Kay (Jim) Swift of Rolla, MO, Jean (John) Grebin of Spillville, IA and Jim (Renee) Lillibridge of Decorah; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Adeline D. (Vick) Lillibridge was born in Canby, Minnesota on February 22, 1919 to Carl Vick and Inga (Rasmussen) Vick. Adeline had one sibling, Vivian (Mrs. Marlin Grinna). When Adeline was four years old, the family moved to Decorah where Adeline’s father eventually started Vick’s Heating and Plumbing.

Adeline graduated from Decorah High School in 1937. She attended Luther College for one year and graduated from Mercy Hospital of Nursing in Iowa City in 1941. She treasured her classmates at Mercy and rarely missed a reunion.

Her first employment was at the Decorah Hospital where Adeline eventually served as Nursing Director. She also worked for a time as an office nurse for Dr. Lester Larson. Adeline worked at the Decorah Retirement Center, (Aase Haugen Home) and eventually became Director of Nurses there. She finished her nursing career working for the State of Iowa calling on nursing homes. Adeline loved being a nurse and is fondly remembered by those who worked with her.

Adeline married Alanson (Lance) Lillibridge on July 18th, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri, while he was on a two week furlough from the Army. This union was blessed with four children, Mary, Jean, Kay, and Jim.

Adeline was an active member of Decorah Lutheran Church. She was also involved in the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, Red Cross and the Vietnamese refugee program.

In retirement Adeline enjoyed golfing, entertaining and traveling. She and Lance enjoyed vacationing in Florida, Texas, Ozarks and throughout the South. Adeline and Lance loved to dance and belonged to a local square dance club.

Adeline died on Friday January 12th, 2018 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.

At the time of Adeline’s passing she was survived by her four children: Mary Welker of Baytown, TX, Jean (John) Grebin of Spillville, Kay (Jim) Swift of Rolla, MO and Jim (Renee) Lillibridge of Decorah; 14 grandchildren: Debra Horte retired US Navy, Deann (Dennis) Meyer of Chilton, WI, Dannice (Kevin) Kolbe of Rowley, IA, Dannell Price of Independence, IA, Devon Goodyear (special friend Dinorah) of Baytown, TX, Cindy Running Franco of Charlotte, NC, Tanya (Darrin) Juve of Chanhassen, MN, Mitch (Kristi) Running of Boise, ID, Shane (Kelly) Kinsel of Laramie, WY, Shannon (Randy) Payne of Hayden, CO, Stephanie Kinsel of Bernallio, NM, Sherry Kinsel of Steamboat Springs, CO, JJ Lillibridge (special friend Mae Johnson) of Hutto, TX and Peter Lillibridge of Hutto, TX; several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and step grandchildren.

Since Adeline’s death, her daughter Kay died on February 22nd and her daughter Mary died on March 15th.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lance on August 26, 2010; sister Vivian Grinna; grandson David Goodyear; and great-grandson Matthew Kinsel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago Street, Decorah, IA 52101 or Aase Haugen Senior Services, 4 Ohio Street, Decorah, IA 52101.
