Russell Lavern Stevenson Sr., 83
Services were held, Thursday, September 13, at the Lime Springs Methodist Church with Pastor Margaret Asabea officiating. Internment{sic} was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs, Iowa with military honors by the Lloyd L. Horton American Legion Post.
Russell died on Monday, September 10 at the Cresco Care Center.
Russell was born on September 2, 1918 in Decorah, Iowa. He was the son of Charles A. and Ida (Anway) Stevenson, Sr. He started school in Decorah and at the age of seven, he moved with is family to Maple Leaf. He attended the Howard County school near there. After graduation, he returned home to help with the farm and also hired out to neighbors. In August 1942, he was called into the Army and served his country during World War II until February 1946. He worked for the REC in Cresco for two years. In January 1948, he married Rosemarie Drewelow. After their marriage, he worked for Simplex in Algonquin, Illinois for one year. He then began farming near Lime Springs purchasing a farm on the Golden Ridge where he lived and farmed for more than 40 years. Russell was active in the Farm Bureau and served on the board. He was also on the ASCS committee. He enjoyed carpenter work and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Rose, daughter Michala (Harold) Sinning of Rochester, Minnesota and a son Russell Jr. (Karen) of Lime Springs, Iowa, six grandchildren - Laura Sinning of Eyota, Minnesota, Robert (Kristen) Sinning and Christopher (Heather) Sinning on Pine Island, Minnesota, Tressa (Kevin) Walton of Vinton, Iowa, Jackie Stevenson and Rodney Stevenson of Lime Springs, Iowa, three great-grandchildren, Aleasha of Eyota, Minnesota, and Colton and Austin Sinning of Pine Island, Minnesota, two brothers, Charles (Alice) Stevenson of Elma, Iowa and Wayne Stevenson of Decorah, Iowa, a sister, Loretta Leitz of Florenceville, Iowa, and a host of nieces and nephews.
