LORENE SCHWEINEFUS 1916-1995
Lorene Schweinefus, daughter of the late William and Minnie L. (Abbie) (sic) Schwinefus, (sic) was born November 2, 1916 in rural Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, Castalia, Iowa. She died Thursday, December 7, 1995 at the Ossian Senior Hospic (sic), Ossian, Iowa, following a lingering illness. She was 79 years old.
Lorene was baptized and confirmed in her faith at Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia, Iowa. She obtained her education in the Mundt Country School southwest of Castalia near her home farm.
She was a homemaker and caretaker of her parents and a brother, Ervin. She enjoyed gardening and raising beautiful cabbage for the church soup suppers. Embroidering was another avid interest. Lorene moved to Ossian in 1969 and at that time joined the Ossian Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ruth Circle and the ALCW. She also was a member of Castalia's Tuesday Club. In March of 1978, she entered the Ossian Senior Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, her twin, Lavern Schweinefus on October 25, 1990, Melvin Schweinefus in infancy, Ernest Schweinefus, Earlan Schweinefus, and triplet sisters, Alma Schweinefus, Elvina Schweinefus, and Augusta Schweinefus, in infancy. Survivors include a brother, Martin Schweinefus of Muscatine; a niece, Roma Schweinefus of Denver, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Schweinefus and Margaret Schweinefus, both of West Union.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 11, 1995 at Ossian Lutheran Church with Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Organist was Irmgaard Ellingson and special music was provided by the Ossian Quartet and congregational singing. Casket bearers were Duane Meyer, Nilus Imoehl, Jack Hemesath, Eugene Schroeder, Curtis Monroe, Clarion Torkelson and Kyle Wander. Schmitz Funeral Home of Ossian was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia, Iowa.
