NEW HAMPTON - A.J. Mashek, 68, New Hampton, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center, Mason City from complications during; surgery.
A Memorial Mass will, be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at St. Mary Catholic Church, New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt officiating. Ann Bennett will be the organist and accompany the St. Mary's Church Choir singing "Here I Am Lord", "Prayer Of St. Francis", "Seeds Scattered And Sown" and "On Eagles Wings". Diane Sumner will serve as cantor. Lectors will be Michael and William Mashek and Sharon McDowell. Charles Mashek will be Eucharistic Minister. A.J.'s grandchildren will present the offertory gifts.
Inurnment with Military Graveside Honors will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 at Conway Funeral Home, New Hampton, where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary and 7 p.m. Scripture Service, and also an hour prior to services at the church.
A.J. Mashek was born Sept. 8, 1933 in Calmar, the son of Adolph J. and Mae(Riehle) Mashek. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School in New Hampton. After his schooling he worked on the family farm until entering the service in October of 1953. He served during the Korean Conflict, receiving his honorable discharge in October of 1955. He was united in marriage with Agnes Zimmer on Oct. 22, 1955 at St. Mary's in New Hampton. After their marriage the couple resided on the Zimmer Homestead where, they farmed all of their married life until his semi-retirement in 1983 when they moved to New Hampton. Durine their retirement the couple spent their winters in Alamo, TX. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Lawler American Legion Post 279 and the Alta Vista VFW Post 4069, the Cattleman's Association and the Farm Bureau. He served as a Soil Conservation Commissioner for many years. He enjoyed planting and harvesting, fishing and camping with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes; a son, Steve (Karen), New Hampton; a daughter, Mary (Larry) Schubert, Rockford; six grandchildren; four sisters, Dorothy Flick, New Hampton, Alice Rosenberg, Garderville, NV, Maggie Sloan, Waucoma and Theresa Berry, San Jose, CA; three brothers, Don Mashek and Virgil Mashek, both of Lawler and Jerome Mashek, Eleva, Wl.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.
