Madonna B. Laures, 83, New Hampton, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001 at the 11th St. Chautauqua Home in Charles City of natural causes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt as celebrant. Ann Bennett will be or-ganist, accompanying the St. Mary's Choir. The pall will be placed on the casket by her three children. Offertory gifts will be presented by Ann Krizan, Nicole Carolan and Diane Wilson. Lectors for the service are Vicki Laures and Chris Krizan.
Interment is in St. Mary's Cemetery with grandsons, Jeff Laures, Brian Laures, Doug Laures, Travis Laures, Eric Laures, David Krizan, Mike Krizan, Adam Carolan and Sean Carolan as pallbearers.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17 at Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary, a 7:30 p.m. Parish Scripture Service and an 8 p.m. Video Memorial Tribute.
Madonna was born March 12, 1918 near Jackson Junction, IA in Winneshiek County on the farm of her parents, William and Josephine (Heatherton) Shekleton. She was baptized in the Catholic faith on March 24, 1918 at Assumption Parish in Little Turkey. Madonna attended rural schools in the Lawler area. Following her education, she worked as a nanny for a few years in St. Paul, MN and then for families in the Lawler area. On Aug. 20, 1940, she married Clem William Laures at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cnurch in Lawler. The couple farmed southwest of New Hampton from the time of their marriage until the early 1970s when they moved into New Hampton. Her husband Clem died on June 30, 1985. Madonna was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Rosary Society and the New Hampton Senior Citizens. She enjoyed playing cards, automobile trips, family gatherings, phone calls and visits from family, friends and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are one daughter, Sharon (Bernard) Krizan, Fredericksburg; two sons, Chuck (Elaine) Laures, Osage, Rick (June) Laures, Tripoli; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lorrraine Kennelly, Keene, NH and Dorothy (Bud) Denner, New Hampton; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Clem; three brothers, Glen, John and Raymond Shekleton; one sister, Anna Wicks.
