Pioneer Madison Woman Passed Away Friday
Gunhild O. Santon, an esteemed resident of Madison township, passed away Friday, Jan. 29, at her home near the Madison church. The deceased was a daughter of Ole and Ingeborg Nelsdautter Santon and was born in Norway, May 18, 1848 and when death claimed her, was 83 years, 8 months and 11 days old.

She came to America with her brother in 1856, and had been a continuous resident of Winneshiek county, in Madison township since then. She lived a good life and was always esteemed and respected by all her many friends. She was always ready to assist in any charitable and needed cause and was a contributor of money to many worthy causes. Her death brings sorrow to many friends.

The funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock from the home and 1:30 from the Madison church. Rev. D.C. Jordahl officiated and interment was in the Madison cemetery.
