Glenn Remmen, age 95, of Decorah, IA, died on Monday, November 13, 2017, at the Barthell O.E.S Home in Decorah.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, 1725 Washington Prairie Rd., rural Decorah, with Rev. Jenny Edinger presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m., until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, in Decorah, and also after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Friday morning.
Glenn Irving Remmen was born on May 21, 1922 the son of Gilbert and Ida (Boe) Remmen in Decorah, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. Glenn attended country school and later graduated from Decorah High School. He also attended Luther College for one year following high school. Glenn married Ruth Bullard on August 16, 1944 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. Before farming on his own, he farmed with his father on the Remmen farm and later with his brother Rudy. Glenn then farmed with his father-in-law Ralph Bullard on the Bullard farm. Glenn went to work for Camcar later in life in quality control until his retirement. After retiring he and Ruth were the custodians at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. Glenn enjoyed singing and was a member of the Luren Singers for many years. He also enjoyed mowing lawn, sitting in the sun, and taking his family on vacations. He loved animals and had a great respect for the animals he cared for while farming. Glenn particularly loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a life-long member of the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church.
Glenn is survived by his daughter: Nancy (Bruce) Layton, Bethesda, MD. Two grandchildren: Laurie (Cory) Ellingson, Lawler, IA and Carolin (Sherman Watts) Remmen, Decorah, IA. One great grandchild: Kaitlyn Humpal, Des Moines, IA.
Glenn was preceded in death by his wife Ruth on February 5, 2017. His parents: Gilbert and Ida (Boe) Remmen. One son: Steve Remmen. Daughter-in-law: Carol (Harris) Remmen. Son-in-law: Richard Paine. Granddaughter: Karith Remmen. Father and Mother-in-law: Ralph and Agnes (Sjoboen) Bullard. Brothers: Rudy (Velma) Remmen and Olaf (Marie) Remmen. Sister: Anna (Morris) Olson.
