Stanley Humpal, age 88, of Decorah, IA, died on Monday, July 31, 2017, at his home in Decorah, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, August 4, 2017, at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, 207 Church Street, Spillville, IA, with Rev. Robert Gross presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, 207 Church Street, in Spillville, IA, and also after 12:30 p.m., at the church on Friday.

Stanley Stephen Humpal was born on April 26, 1929, the son of James and Christine (Phillips) Humpal on the family farm near Conover in rural Winneshiek County. He attended country school in Conover through eighth grade. Stanley began farming after school with his family. He met Kathleen “Kay” Heying at a dance in Spillville and they were married on September 5, 1950 at Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Festina. Together they had eight children: Twins Kathy and Karen, Dale, Lonnie, Dean, Sally, Tina and Darryl. Stanley continued to farm until he and Kay moved to Decorah in 1994. Stanley enjoyed dancing and playing cards. He had a passion for farming his entire life and after he retired he still enjoyed driving around and checking the crops and livestock.

Stanley is survived by his wife Kay. Seven children: Karen (Russell) Stevenson Jr., Lime Springs, IA; Dale (Mary Jo) Humpal, Ridgeway, IA; Lonnie (Karen) Humpal, Decorah, IA; Dean (Lois) Humpal, Decorah, IA; Sally (Clair) Malanaphy, Decorah, IA; Tina (Donald) Shatek, Elma, IA; Darryl (Michelle) Humpal, Ridgeway, IA. Grandchildren: Dr. Kari (Don) Taylor-Evans; Karla (Mike) Clay; Tressa (Kevin) Walton; Jackie (Three) Carpenter; Rodney Stevenson; Tara (Tristan) Roegner; Jenna Humpal; Dylan Humpal; Melissa (Ben) Fisher; Ashley (Kevin) Wellmann; Brett (Becky) Humpal; Chelsea ( Fiance Colin McGuire) Humpal; Chanda Humpal; Nicole (Steve) Sprague; DeAnn (Chris) Constantine; Joshua (Alyssa) Humpal; Jordan Humpal; Jake Humpal; Kelly (Jeff) Evans; Lucas (Sarah) Malanaphy; Colin Malanaphy; Kristen Malanaphy; Jessica (Pat) McCabe; Sarah (Matt) Dick; Brittney (Wyatt) Phillips; Brooke (Jordan Ferries) Shatek; Danielle ( Fiance Mitchell Hageman) Humpal; Courtney Humpal; Hannah Humpal and Avery Humpal. Five brothers-in-law: Irvin (Marion) Heying, Sumner, IA; Cleo (Emily) Heying, Luana, IA; Richard (Linda) Heying, Ossian, IA; Donald (Carolyn) Heying, Calmar, IA; and Eugene Bodensteiner, West Union, IA.

Stanley was preceded in death by his daughter: Kathy (Alan) Taylor. Parents: James and Christine (Phillips) Humpal. Father & mother in-law: Peter and Agnes (Bohr) Heying. Five brothers and their spouses: William (Emma) Humpal, Adolph (Ludmilla) Humpal, Paul (Rose) Humpal, Rudy (Rita) Humpal and Robert Humpal. Three brothers-in-law: Hugo (Lucille) Heyin, Donald Timp and Larry Heying. Two sisters-in-law: Ruth Langreck and Rosalyn Bodensteiner.
