Doris Georgia Hovden Anderson, the youngest of seven children, the daughter of Olaves G. and Georgia Nelson Hovden went to meet her Savior on June 18th, 2017. She was born the 22nd of April, 1916. She was baptized, confirmed and later married in the Madison Lutheran Church. She married John Oliver Anderson also a member of Madison on Dec. 22, 1937. They had one daughter, Ramona. Doris was always an active member of the Madison Church. She served as organist, choir director, youth counselor, Sunday school teacher and president of the women's group (WELCA). She was the last living charter member of the Bethany Circle which was organized in the 1940's. In 1959 Doris and family moved to San Diego, California, where they joined Our Savior's Lutheran where they also were active. Doris sang in the choir, taught Vacation Bible School and helped out in the church office. In her spare time she did volunteer work in Tijuana, Mexico teaching English and Christian songs in the Lutheran Baja Mission. She and a coworker had the privilege of visiting several orphanages and a hospital. They brought food to the orphanages. When Oliver and Doris retired, they moved back to Iowa to spend their summers. After Oliver passed away on 7/28/81 Doris ultimately decided she wanted to spend her remaining years in Iowa. The two of them really enjoyed celebrating their Norwegian heritage by belonging first to Sons of Norway in San Diego and then later in Decorah. Doris just received her 50 years of membership pin this past January. She dearly loved music and joined the Farm Bureau Chorus until they disbanded in 2000. She also loved to witness for her Lord which she was able to do many times in her travels. She was able to visit Norway a few times and also took cruises which she thoroughly enjoyed. Doris was devoted to her family and was so grateful for all the kindness both her family and friends showed to her during her long, full life. She felt fortunate to be a resident of first the Arlin Falk assisted living home and later the Mathilda Barthell OES Home where she was when she passed. Her care at both facilities was outstanding! She had wanted to be with Jesus for a very long time and now she is.
To God be the Glory!

She leaves behind her only child, Ramona Davenport of Vacaville, CA, two grandchildren, Jon Davenport of Portland, Oregon and Susan Davenport (husband Michael Grosse) and two great grandchildren Daniel Davenport-Grosse and Scout Davenport-Grosse of San Francisco, CA.
