Ronald Kruse, age 79, of Ft. Atkinson, IA, died on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Ossian Senior Hospice, Ossian, IA following a short illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at the St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 307 East main street, St. Lucas, with Rev. Kyle Digmann presiding. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., on, Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, IA and also after 9:30 a.m., on Wednesday morning at the church. There will be a rosary at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Ronald Joseph, the son of Martin and Gertrude (Martin) Kruse was born January 17,1938 on the home farm near St. Lucas, IA. He graduated from St Luke’s Catholic High School. After high school, Ronald farmed with his parents and siblings. On May 29, 1965, he was united in marriage with Nellie Stortz at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Mabel, MN. They were blessed with four children: Judy, Daniel, Monica, and Denise. Ronald and Nellie continued to farm together along with their son Daniel, right up until his recent illness. He enjoyed going to farm auctions, gun shows, chuck wagon races and tractor pulls. Ronald loved working on the farm, visiting with neighbors, listening to Rush Limbaugh and spending time with his family.
Ronald is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Nellie. Four children and spouses: Judy (Jason) Mitchell of Garnavillo, Daniel (Melissa) Kruse of Ft. Atkinson, Monica (Harvey) Zweibohmer of Ossian, & Denise (Jon) Hassing of Wells, MN; Eleven grandchildren: Marty Mitchell of San Francisco, CA, Kelsey Mitchell of Des Moines, IA, Aubrey Mitchell of Garnavillo, IA, Garrison, Kade, and Cambree Kruse of Ft. Atkinson, IA, Cloey and Hayden Zweibohmer of Ossian, IA, Amber, Ashley, and Evelyn Hassing of Wells, MN. His Brother: Fr. Clarence Kruse of Dubuque, IA. Sisters: Theresa Breuer, La Crescent, MN, Marcella Horihan, Marshfield, WI, Clara Horihan, Waterloo, IA, Phyllis (Al) Malin, Westby, WI. Brother & sisters-in-law: Chester Blechinger, Marjorie Welscher, Harlan and Dorothy Gjere, Sue Stortz, Darrell and Sharon Stortz, & Lawrence and Gayle Stortz along with many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Gertrude and Martin Kruse, mother & father-in-law: Bernadine and Henry Stortz; Brother: Fr. Charles Kruse, Sisters: Eileen Blechinger, Alice Kruse: Brother and sisters-in-law: Bill Breuer, John Horihan, Don Horihan, Mary Lou Bahr, Joe and Leona Stortz, Harley Welscher, & Erwin and Virginia Stortz.
