Decorah - Mrs. Patrick Hogan of this city died at her home Wednesday, Oct. 6, after a prolonged illness.
Born in Allamakee County, Hanover Township in a real Christian home of pioneer parents she inherited the qualities which made her a loving wife, kind mother, true friend and loyal citizen. No sacrifice was too great for her to make for her loved ones and her friends.
Mrs. Hogan was a woman of unusual integrity. She loved her home and was happiest when engaged in her daily round of duties. Her whole life was characterized by an abiding faith in God. She was a true and devout Catholic. During the long days of illness her greatest comfort came from the frequent visits and spiritual counsel of her kind pastor.
A Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated for the repose of her soul. Her nephew, Rev. J.C. McShane, of Winona, Minnesota, was celebrant, assisted by his brother, Rev. Adrian McShane, deacon and Father Hogan sub-deacon.
Father Hogan delivered an eloquent sermon. Priceless value of a human soul was forcibly impressed upon the large concourse of sorrowing friends whose presence in St. Benedict's Church was testimony of the high esteem in which the deceased was held in the community. Father Hogan in his sermon told how Mrs. Hogan would be missed by the Altar Society, the Ladies' Aid and the Church of which she was a life long member. She died fortified by its last rites.
She leaves to mourn her loss a devoted husband, one dutiful son James, her daughter-in-law and one little grand-daughter; three brothers, P.J. Ward of St. Paul, Minn.; Wm. Ward of Hanover Township, Allamakee County; Thos. Ward of Spokane, Wash.; two sisters, Sr. M. Laurentina of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Mrs. McShane of Austin, Minnesota.

Note: The 1925 Iowa State census gives her parents as John & Mary Ward. Most likely burial place is in the St. Benedict cemetery, Decorah.
