Arthur "Bud" Merlin Quam, age 90 of Decorah died Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Hawkeye Care Center in Cresco.

Arthur "Bud" Merlin Quam was born November 3, 1925 to Alfred C. and M. Remelia (Ramsey) Quam in a stone house in Glenwood Township of Winneshiek County, Iowa. He attended the rural schools known as Tollefson School, Horgan School and Melaas School. In 1936 his father and mother had a farm sale and the family moved to Decorah. Bud then attended east side grade school and Decorah High School graduating in 1945. At that time Bud was working at the Coca Cola Bottling Plant in Decorah. Later he was introduced to Roselyn Hanson by Charles Yarwood, a relative of Roselyn. On October 7, 1951 he married Roselyn Hanson at the Hauge Lutheran church in Canoe Township.

Bud also worked for Standard Oil Company in Decorah. While working for M & M Feed Company the family moved to Stoughton, Wisconsin for a few years. After they returned to Decorah, he held several jobs including Orkin Pest control, Lamberts Missouri Distributing Company of Chillicothe MO, Oneota Bowling Lanes, Decorah Meal Site, and finally 15 years as a driver for Northeast Iowa Community Action. Finally retiring on July 31, 2001 at the age of 75.

Early in his life Bud was a member of the Decorah Kilties Drum and Bugle Corp, later on when his son was a member of the Corp Bud was President of the board of directors and played role in organizing their 50th anniversary. Bud and Roselyn enjoyed a busy and full life, they enjoyed raising their family, attending the activities of their children and grandchildren. They were long time members of First Lutheran Church in Decorah.

Bud is survived by two children: Roxanne (Rodney L.) Zubrod of Cresco and Rodney Quam of Los Angeles, California; two grandsons: Ramon and Reece Zubrod, both of Cresco; a sister, Alice "Toots" (Eddie) Macha, two brothers-in-law: Arlin Hanson and Willard (Verna) Hanson all of Decorah, and many nieces and nephews.

Bud is preceded in death by parents; his wife Roselyn on January 1, 2016, 3 brothers: Milford Quam, Odin Quam, Arthur Melvin Quam (who died at birth); 4 sisters: Arlene Doubek, Ruby D'Oliveira, Marian Steele and Gladys Olson. Roselyn's parents: Bennie and Velma Hanson; Roselyn's brothers: Kenneth Hanson and Merlin Hanson.
