Stanley T. “Red” Iverson, age 92, of Decorah, Iowa, died Saturday evening, October 8, 2016 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Big Canoe Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, with the Rev. Kurt Bockoven officiating. Full Military Honors by Decorah’s Veterans and Military Organizations.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, one hour before the service, at Big Canoe Lutheran Church.

Stanley Thomas “Red” Iverson was born on June 4, 1924 in Decorah, Iowa to Theodore O. and Rose (Thomas) Iverson. He was educated in Pleasant #1 country school and then went to work on the family farm. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 28, 1948 and served at Fort Riley in Kansas and in the Korean Conflict, earning the rank of Sergeant. He was honorably discharged on September 28, 1951.

He was united in marriage with Darlene Muchow on November 30, 1953 in Waterloo, Iowa. This union was blessed with four children: Greg, Diane, Deb and Kathy.

Red worked for 36 years at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo. He also worked with Seegmiller Lawn Care in Waterloo for many years. They moved to Decorah and Red was the Master of Custodial Arts at Big Canoe Lutheran Church in rural Decorah for nine years. He was a life member of the V.F.W.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father- and mother-in-law, Hall and Mildred Muchow, three sisters: Marguerite (Lester) Rasmussen, Frances Schwank and Gail (Charles) Schrader; son-in-law, Hank Snyder; and daughter-in-law, Sheila Iverson.

Red is survived by his wife Darlene; his son Greg Iverson of Decorah; three daughters: Diane (Jeff) Turner of Decorah and Deb (Stan Fullerton) Snyder of Decorah, and Kathy (Bruce) Demsky of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren: Andy (Maggie) Iverson, Tore (Mike) Short, Nathan Iverson, Stephanie (Clay) Koenig, Matt (Lisa) Turner, Josh Snyder, Michael (Beth) Snyder, Lindsay Olson, Jake Demsky, Aron (Suzanna) Demsky, Justin (Heather) Demsky, Royce Fullerton, Lauren (Dan) Karr, and Alice (Juel Teslow) Fullerton; great-grandchildren: Anya Iverson, Klaara Short, Carli and Cael Koenig, Maddy, Kadin, Kash and Jack Turner, Kiah and Abel Snyder, Carter and Adelena Olson, Lorelei Karr, Dalton and Dillon Briggs, and Lilah Demsky; and one sister, Helen Seim of Ames, IA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Big Canoe Lutheran Church, 1381 Big Canoe Road, Decorah, IA 52101.
