Rita Kulish, age 70, of Spring Grove, MN, died on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at her home in Spring Grove, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 29, 2016, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 304 South Maryville Street, Calmar, IA, with Rev. Robert Gross presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from: 5:00-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, 202 South Washington Street, in Calmar, IA, and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Thursday morning.

Rita Jean (Flatten) Kulish was born on April 25, 1946, in Des Moines, IA. She was adopted as a baby to Oscar and Ida (Flatten) Overhaug. She attended rural country school near Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church and graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1964. She was united in marriage to Walter Kulish on March 5, 1965, in Decorah, IA. Rita worked for Peterson Insurance Company in Decorah; Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids; and American Marine in LaCrosse, WI. She started a mail processing company in 2003, moving the business to Tennessee until 2011. While working on her own business, she also helped both of her sons with their businesses. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, computers, knowing her current events, camping, boating and spending time with her family. Rita also loved her dog, Tuesday and returning to Iowa to see relatives. Rita was a member of the Moose Lodge in Tennessee.

Rita is survived by her husband: Walter Kulish, Spring Grove, MN. Two sons: James (Jane) Kulish, Ames, IA, and Mark (Rebecca Fulbright) Kulish, Johnson City, TN. Three grandchildren: Melissa Kulish, Johnson City, TN, Nicole (Adam) Hyer, Ames, IA, and Jeremy (Tricia) Milam, Maricopa, AZ. One great grandchild: Jordyn Milam and Gio Milam. Former daughter-in-law: Stacey Kulish, Johnson City, TN. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Rose Marie (Duane) Macal, Monroe, OH; Patricia Shuman, Osage, IA; Clifford (Rita) Kulish, Fayette, IA; Wayne Kulish, St. Ansgar, IA; Michael Kulish, Northwood, IA; Maurice “Boog” (Joanie) Kulish, Protivin, IA; Kevin (Kris) Kulish, Calmar, IA, along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Oscar and Ida (Flatten) Overhaug. Mother and Father-in-law: Walter and Genevieve (Barr) Kulish. Brothers-in-law: David Kulish and Lowell Shuman.
