NEW HAMPTON - Catherine E. Lensing, 98, New Hampton, died Wednesday, July 19 at the New Hampton Care Center of natural causes.

Funeral services were held 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 22 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt officiating. Barb Havlik was organist and accompanied the St. Joseph Resurrection Choir and Gail Ives, cantor. Hymns included "On Eagle's Wings", "Peace Is Flowing Like A River", "One Bread, One Body" and "How Great Thou Art". Lectors were Dennis Bohr, Melinda Lensing and Anna May Pyle. Brian and Bradley Schmitt served Mass. Gift bearers were Catherine's three sons, and her five daughters placed the pall on the casket.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton, with Darryl Bohr, Tom Marpe, Glen Gerleman, Steve Lensing, Keith Lensing, Ken Orthaus, Dave Lensing and DeWayne Beckley serving as casket bearers.

Visitation was after 3 p.m. Friday, July 21 at Conway Funeral Home in New Hampton, with a 4 p.m. Rosary and 8 p.m. Scripture Service and also for an hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Catherine Elizabeth Lensing was born May 3, 1902 near North Washington, the daughter of Peter and Katie (Schmitz) . She attended I.C. Academy in North Washington and St. Mary's Catholic High School in New Hampton. On Sept. 12, 1928, Catherine was united in marriage with George Lensing at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton. Following their marriage the couple farmed in the Jackson Junction area until 1952, when they moved northwest of New Hampton where they farmed until moving to New Hampton in 1962. After moving into town, Catherine was employed as a nurse's aide at the New Hampton Care Center, where she worked for 22 years. She was a volunteer for the Senior Citizens Center and the New Hampton Care Center for 30 years. Catherine was an active member of the Legion Auxiliary, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Rosary Society and sang in the choir. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and playing cards at the Senior Center.

Surviving are five daughters, Maurita Marpe, Charles City, Margaret (Cyril) Bohr, Ossian, Mary (Bob) Beckley, Bellevue, Grace (Virgil) Gerleman, St. Lucas, Theresa (Bill) Orthaus, Ionia; three sons, Eugene (Glenda) Lensing, Nashua, Vincent (Wilma) Lensing and Gilbert (Kathy) Lensing, New Hampton; 42 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; two stepsisters, Elizabeth Brincks, New Hampton, Leona Murphy, Waterloo; one step sister-in-law, Alma Gilbert, Charles City.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, George on Jan. 9,1975; one son-in-law, Elmer Marpe; one grandson, Gerard George Orthaus; one brother, Henry Gilbert; stepmother, Susanna Ungs; one stepbrother, LeRoy Gilbert.
