Donald A. "Buzz" Herold was born June 25, 1935, in Spillville, Iowa, to Mike and Celia (Ludwig) Herold. He graduated from Calmar High School in 1955. Don married Carolyn Puck of Davenport, Iowa, at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in S. Dakota. She preceded him in death in 1994. Don later married Ann Brooks on April 26, 2000, in Melbourne, Arkansas.

Don started his career as a welder at Link-Belt in Cedar Rapids and later moved into Boiler-making working throughout the upper Midwest. Don was a big fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He also loved to make his own fishing poles. He enjoyed fishing in later years at Lake of the Woods in Ontario, Canada. Don and Ann enjoyed traveling with his motorhome. He visited each province in Canada and journeyed into Alaska. He particularly enjoyed telling jokes and stories to his family and the friends he made over the years.

Don is survived by his wife Ann Herold of Cresco; three siblings Leonard (Majel) Herold of Brookfield, Vermont; Martha Martin of San Jose, California; and Ruth Herold of Daytona Beach, Florida, and nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Carolyn, and four siblings Walter Herold, Dorothy Einwalter, Bob Herold, and Elaine Herold.
