Karen Marie (Kohrs) Jaster, 68, of Ossian, Iowa died, Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa. Karen was born September 28, 1947 at the hospital in Postville, Iowa, the daughter of Delbert and Hilma (Kuhse) Kohrs. She graduated in 1965 from Independence High School. Karen was united in marriage to Jack Jaster on October 29, 1966 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa. To this union three children were born, John, Shannon and Chad.

Karen worked at the Ossian Senior Hospice for over 42 years holding different positions such as CNA, Dietary Manager and in the Laundry Dept. She also worked for the Good Samaritan in Postville and at the hospital in West Union. She also volunteered with the local Boy Scouts for many years, while Jack was the Boy Scouts leader. Karen was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and the St. Francis de Sales Rosary Society. She liked going to country and western concerts with her friends and receiving hugs from her grandchildren. Attending her grandchildren’s school activities and programs filled her with joy. When she was not spending time with her family she enjoyed watching the hallmark channel.

Karen is survived by her three children; John (Stephanie) Jaster of Spring Grove, Minnesota, Shannon (Chuck) Covell of Ossian and Chad (Julie) Jaster of Ossian; seven grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Jordan and Josephina Jaster, Amy and Austin Covell and Brady and Paige Jaster; two great- grandchildren, Jaryia and Tristen Jones and a third great-grandchild on the way; two brothers, Wes Kohrs of Lake Havasu City, AZ and Gary (Cindy) Kohrs of Independence, IA two sisters, Barb Burns of Postville, IA and Gloria Janey of Atkins, IA; two sisters-in-law, Shelva Kohrs of Postville, IA and Bonnie Pape of West Union, IA; her mother-in-law, Neva Jaster of Ossian, IA and many nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Jack on November 12, 2011, her parents, Delbert and Hilma Kohrs; Step-Father, Harlin Miller; father-in-law, Johnnie Jaster; brother, Dennis Kohrs; two brothers-in-law, Bob Burns and Dale Pape; sister-in-law, Judy Kohrs and two nephews Darrin Smock and Jarin Janey.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 13, 2016 from 4-8 pm at Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, Iowa and one hour before Mass at the church on Thursday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, Iowa with Rev. Robert Gross as the Celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, Iowa.

Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
