Beverly J. McIntosh, 78, formerly of Lime Springs, and Decorah, Iowa passed away June 30, 2016, at Hawkeye Care Center in Cresco. Funeral services are Saturday, July 9, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lime Springs, with Pastor Maureen Hagen officiating. Services are at 10:30 a.m., with visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the church. Lunch follows at the church. Interment is at Phelps Cemetery in Decorah, at 1:30 p.m. Friends and family who are unable to attend the funeral at St. Paul are encouraged to attend the interment service at Phelps Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Howard County Community Hospice or Phelps Cemetery in Decorah.
Beverly Janette (Rowe) McIntosh was born May 21, 1938, daughter of Joseph Oliver Rowe and Velma Ilene (Wood) Rowe, in Decorah. She was baptized at the Methodist Church in Decorah and confirmed Methodist in Minneapolis, Minn. Beverly’s father passed when she was just eight years old. Her mother passed in California when she was 22 years old, and she moved back to Decorah after many moves with her mother and step-father. Beverly was working at Deco in Decorah when she met her future husband, Walter, in 1962. Beverly worked at the café at the Mac’s 66 Station in Decorah with her mother-in-law. Beverly and Walter were married Nov. 17, 1962, and she was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at that time by Pastor Bruno Schlactenhaufen. To this union, two children were born, Theresa in 1964 and Keith in 1966. In 1966 the family moved to the farm north of Decorah. Beverly had a big job raising two children and all of her chores on the farm, cooking for the men, gathering eggs from a 4,000 hen-laying house and transporting the children from North Winn to Decorah for various church activities and Decorah Lutheran Church, where she also taught Sunday school for a number of years. Beverly also attended classes in Calmar where she attained her GED. Beverly very much enjoyed the year they hosted Norwegian exchange student, Kjell Stolen, in 1983. She also enjoyed having her “extra” children, Tim Alberts, Lorry (Jacobson) Kohls and many others coming to the farm over the years. Beverly and Walter moved off the farm, first moving to Chester, and then to Lime Springs. During these years, she attended classes in Calmar again, to become a home health aide for Howard County, where she worked for a number of years. She finished her working career working for the Lime Springs Herald. Over the years, Beverly belonged to various organizations in the communities in which she lived including the Lady Elks, Church council, Porkettes, and Legion Auxiliary. Beverly loved to travel and was a tour hostess on bus tours for one year, which covered all corners of the United States and across Canada. Beverly and her daughter, Theresa, also spent three weeks in England in 1981, and she and Walter went to Mexico City, Scotland and enjoyed numerous trips around the country with their motor home.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Walter McIntosh; two children, Theresa Odom of Graettinger and Keith (Angie) McIntosh of Harmony, Minn.: five grandchildren: Maya Odom, John Odom, Tiffany (Shane Little) McIntosh, Victoria (Chad) Olson and Katelyn (Dylan Gossick) McIntosh; three great-grandchildren: Caden and Tyler Olson and Brendin Odom; brother, Ronald (Ruth) Rowe; sister-in-law, Vera (McIntosh) and Harold Hovey; sister-in-law, Diane McIntosh: and five nephews: Joseph, Ronald Jr. and Roland Rowe, Brian (Renae) McIntosh and Kevin (Angie) McIntosh.
Beverly was preceded in death by her father, Joseph; mother, Velma; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Bernice (Schave) McIntosh; brother-in-law, Robert McIntosh; and son-in-law James Odom Jr.Source: Decorah Newspapers July 6, 2016
