Dave Timp, age 55, of Spillville died Friday, June 10, 2016 at his home with his family at his side after a two year battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, IA, with Rev. Robert Gross presiding. Burial will be in the Church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00p.m., on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at the Balik Funeral Home in Spillville and also after 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday.

David Joseph Timp was born on October 24, 1960, the son of Lawrence and Esther (Holthaus) Timp in Decorah, IA. He attended St. Aloysius Catholic School and graduated from South Winneshiek High School where he made many life-long friends in the Class of ’79. In 1985, David married Marcia (Rothmeyer) Lembke and in 1986 their daughter, Whitney Jo, was born. They later divorced. Whitney currently lives in Ourense, Spain where she is a teacher. In 1990, David met Kris (Klimesh) Timp at the Czech Inn in Spillville. The couple married on July 23, 1994 at the St. Wenceslaus Church. David and Kris have two daughters, Bailey Lynn, a student at UNI and Alyssa Jade, a student at South Winneshiek High School. Their favorite vacation destination was the Black Hills of South Dakota where they spent their honeymoon, 10th and 21st anniversary along with many other family trips. David was a skilled carpenter and managed his own business, Dave Timp Construction, for over 20 years. He found great satisfaction in renovating homes and often found himself being welcomed in as part of the family as he would share in their daily routines while working on projects. David and Kris purchased a home in Spillville in 1998 where they have made their home ever since. David was an active member of the community, serving on the City Council from 2008 to 2013 where he participated in the tree committee, sidewalk committee, and recreation committee. He was also previously active in the Winneshiek County Ducks Unlimited and the Calmar Commercial Club. In 2010, David began working for the City of Spillville where he continued to use his trade skills and also learned about Drinking Water and Wastewater Management. He loved working outdoors and took pride in every project he did, specifically, maintaining and improving the Inwood Park. He was also instrumental in revitalizing activities for the Spillville Independence Day celebration. Dave was an avid motorcycle rider having been in every state West of the Mississippi on two wheels. One memorable trip known as the “Catfish” tour was where his nickname originated. When he was just 18 years old he approached his Mother about riding with a group of friends to California. After much thought, prayer, and a blessing of his motorcycle by Monsignor Steiert, they had safe and adventurous travels. David’s favorite times were spent with his family and he took great pride in his girls. They enjoyed spending time together: camping, fishing, going for motorcycle rides, eating Pete’s Burgers, and exploring the great outdoors.

David is survived by his wife, Kris, three daughters: Whitney (Javier Loureiro Diaz), Bailey, and Alyssa. His mother, Esther Timp, Decorah, IA; two brothers: Gary Timp, Decorah, IA and Kevin (Nancy) Timp, Calmar, IA; six sisters: Nancy (Marv) Pankow, Decorah, IA, Myra (Jerry) Crow, Bloomington, MN, Patti (Frank) Graves, Decorah, IA, Linda Peterson, Decorah, IA, Sandy (Kim) Meyer, Castalia, IA, and Lisa (Brian) Bram, Eagan, MN. Father and mother-in-law: Charles and Martha Klimesh, Spillville, IA. Brothers-in-law: Mark (Pat) Klimesh, Ridgeway, IA and Mike (Georgia) Klimesh, Spillville, IA, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

In Heaven, David is enjoying playing cards and going fishing with those who have preceded him: his father, Lawrence in 1970, brother-in-law, Jim Numedahl in 1998, and nephew, Jared Timp in 2013.
