The celebration of Betty Holmquist's long and loved filled, life will take place on 9 May 2016 at 5:00pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson, MN. Pastor Dana O’Brian will be officiating. Burial will directly follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson. A reception will follow immediately at the Mantorville Saloon.

Betty Ordane (Hovden) Homquist, 88, of Kasson, Minn., passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Hubert, N.C., surrounded by friiends, with her dog by her side.

Betty was born Sept. 7, 1927, to Kermit and Edith Hovden in Ridgeway, Iowa, the oldest of four children. She graduated High School in Spring Valley in 1946. She worked at the Hormel Meat Plant in Austin, where she met her husband Willard E. (Bill) Holmquist. They were married in July 1951. They had two children. Pamela (deceased) and Michelle (Shelly) who is a retired 1st Sgt, USMC and is the current owner of Medals to Honor, Inc. in Hubert, NC.

Betty worked for many years as an employee and manager of the Broadway Café. She also bartended at the Union Club. Bill & Betty moved to Kasson in 1971 where they owned and operated The Village Inn Restaurant, until retiring 20 years later. She was preceded in death by her Husband (Bill); one Daughter (Pam); Brother Buddy and his wife Gwenlyn; Sister (Patricia Egglaston (Smitty); Stepson (Gary Holmquist) and Grandson (Tadd); Niece Sonja Hovden; Nephews Terry Turbenson, Kermit and Robin Hovden. Betty is survived by her daughter Michelle (Shelly) Holmquist of Hubert NC; Sister Dana (Hovden) Loy of Rochester; Step Daughter Jody (Holmquist) Nygaard and Husband Tom of Albert Lea; Stepson Steve Holmquist and wife Sue (Osmundson) of St. Cloud; Step daughter Mary (Hunter) Holmquist of Lolo, Mt; Sister-in-law Carol (Holmquist) Baumgartner of St. Paul. Betty has an extended family of numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, all whom she loved deeply.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s / Dementia Research Foundation.
