Decorah- Funeral services for Daniel E. Sjoboen, 86, were held Wednesday afternoon from the farm home to the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. The Rev. Oscar E. Engebretson, pastor, officiated, and burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Sjoboen died at his home in Springfield township Saturday after an illness of three years.
He was born June 2, 1853, in Lysekloster, Bergen, Norway, and was graduated from the agricultural college in Bergen. He served as an assistant to Lensman Nicolasen for a number of years. He immigrated to America in 1885, settling in Winneshiek county soon afterwards, where he had made his home ever since.
On June 1, 1887, he married Miss Anne Boe, and except for three years, they made their home on the Eric Boe farm, which they purchased soon after their marriage.
The couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary shortly before Mrs. Sjoboen died three years ago.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Julius Chekal, Fort Atkinson, Ia.; Mrs. Ralph Bullard, on the home farm; Mrs. Clarence Larson, Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Ferdinand Hegg, Detroit; three brothers, Ole Bergen, in Norway; Lars, of Frost, Minn., and Hans, of Tacoma, Wash., and one sister, Mrs. Ole Russett, Castalia, Ia. He was preceded by his wife, three sons and three daughters.
