Ellen Bessie Halstead, 80, of rural Cresco, Iowa passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.

Ellen was born on June 12, 1935 in Bluffton, Iowa to Ernie and Nora (Olson) Good. She attended school in Bluffton and the Decorah High School. She married Charles Germaine Pierce on September 15, 1951 in Independence, Iowa. Ellen married Wayne Everett Halstead on September 8, 1964 in Vinton, Iowa. She was always busy being a homemaker, but worked outside of the home at the Parkview Café, the Evans Memorial Home, and the Valley Inn.

Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, gardening, flowers, raising chickens, watching birds, fishing, reading, bowling, and her beloved dogs, Penny, Holly, and Tiffy.

She is survived by her husband Wayne of 51 years, children LaRita Pierce of Cresco, Iowa, Howard (Pam) Pierce of Cresco, Iowa, Jeffrey (Georgette) Pierce of Byron, Minnesota, Vicki Cartwright (Mark Zweibohmer) of Schley, Iowa, LeAnne Lewis of Cresco, Iowa, 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Norma (Jack) Smith of Schley, Iowa, Joan Hoppe of Cresco, Iowa, three brother-in-laws, Darwin (Janice) Halstead of Gainsville, Texas, Laverne (Mary) Halstead of Vinton, Iowa, Donald Halstead of Vinton, Iowa, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Charles Pierce, her sons Michael and Joseph (infancy) and a brother-in-law Earl Hoppe.
