OBITUARY
Darrell David Styve was born in Decorah Iowa, on September 23, 1939, the only child of Raymond Milton Styve and Beatrice Magdalene (Swehla) Styve. Darrell attended school in Decorah, Iowa, and following graduation went on to study for a period of time at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. During high school Darrell was active in many activities, particularly football. He also loved working on cars and had a small group of friends that called themselves “The Pied Pipers” that spent most of their spare time in someone’s garage “sprucing up their old cars”. Also while in High School Darrell met his lifelong friend and sweetheart, Judy Kay (Koch) Styve, and they were married on September 10, 1960, in Decorah, Iowa.
Darrell and Judy are the proud parents of three boys, Bryan David, Cris Michael, and Lee Alan. The Styves lived in Decorah, Iowa, Faribault, MN, Willmar, MN and for the past 20+ years in Alexandria, MN. One of the real highlights of Darrell’s life was spending time with his two grandchildren, Rachel Marie and Michael Thomas; and his great-grandson, Carter Matthew Duenow.
Darrell went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the age of 76, after a courageous battle with cancer, under the care of Douglas County Hospice. Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Judy; sons, Bryan (Suzanne McBurney) Styve, Cris Styve, and Lee Styve; grandchildren, Rachel (Matt) Duenow and Michael Styve; great-grandson, Carter Duenow; sister-in-law, Norma (Koch) Einck and husband Jerome; and many nieces and nephews. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; also aunts; uncles; and cousins.
Darrell loved the outdoors, having grown up fishing the Mississippi River every weekend with his parents from the time he was a young boy. He also loved camping with the family and canoeing trips into the BWCA with the boys. He was very active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and received the highest honor a leader can receive, “The Award of Merit”. Another love of his life was being a volunteer leader with the YFC organization division for troubled youth, called Youth Guidance.
Darrell loved the Lord and studying His word, especially enjoying his men’s study group at church. He will be missed for his humor and sincerity.Source: Anderson Funeral Home database
