ARLYNE EVELYN SEATON, age 95, of Spring Valley, Minn., passed away Wednesday evening, March 16, 2016, at the Spring Valley Care Center where she had been a resident for the past three years.

Arlyne was born in Winneshiek County, Iowa, on September 4, 1920, the daughter of Gjermund and Marie (Rustad) Haugen. She attended rural school through the eighth grade and as an adult was proud to get her GED. As a young woman of 17 she went to Waterloo, Iowa, and received her certificate as a beautician. She returned to Decorah, Iowa, and worked in her aunt Mabel’s beauty shop until meeting and marrying Charles Seaton on August 31, 1940, at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church in Winneshiek County. They had two daughters, Gladys Mae and Charlyne Marie.

Arlyne was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley where she was active in the Rachel Circle. When living in Decorah she was a Sunday school teacher and was very involved in her children’s activities as they were growing up. She worked for many years as a physical therapy assistant. She was a loving, quiet person who was always willing to put others ahead of herself. Her love and devotion to her family was an example to all who knew her.

Arlyne is survived by her daughter, Gladys (Gary) Peterson of Spring Valley; son-in-law, David Langley of Esko; grandchildren, Brent (Des) Langley of Roseville, Tevia (Rick) Schneider of Cotton, Megan Langley of Esko; four great-grandchildren, Raina and Isabella Schneider, Arlyne Haney and Samantha Langley; and sisters, Geraldine Solem and Marilyn Istad both of Decorah and Kay Bigalk of Harmony. She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister who died at birth; her loving husband, Charles; her daughter, Charlyne Langley; grandsons, George and Charles Langley; and her brother, Curtis Haugen.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley with Rev Betsy Dartt officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.
