OSSIAN, Ia. – William Remke, 79, died late Friday of injuries suffered in a fall on slippery ice here earlier in the day.

He slipped while going from one entrance to another at the St. Francis de Dales Catholic Church where he had gone to attend mass.

He complained that he didn’t feel well and did not eat breakfast. Later he complained of a headache and a doctor was called. The physician reported that he had suffered a concussion. Plans to move him to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City had to be abandoned because he was to ill to transfer.

He died at 10:30 p.m.

Services for the retired farmer have been tentatively scheduled for Monday at the Catholic Church.

Schmitz Funeral Home in Ossian is in charge of arrangements.
