Calmar, Ia., - Special: Funeral services for Fred Barr, 55, were held here Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock at St. Aloysius Church with the Rev. Joseph Vollmecke, pastor, celebrating the requiem mass.

Burial was in the St. Francis De Sales Cemetery at Ossian. The pallbearers were: Truman Brookner, Matt Schneberger, E. C. Broihier, Charles Lovin, James Staska, and Walter Lawrence.

Mr. Barr died at his home Saturday night following a week’s illness, due to pneumonia and heart trouble.

He was born May 6, 1883 at Cedar Rapids, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barr. He was married Nov. 27, 1907 to Marry Ellen Broderick at McGregor and they lived for a time at Clayton and also at Waterville before moving to Ossian. Six years ago they moved to Calmar, since their home.

For many years he was a blacksmith but for the past few years had been employed by the WPA.

He was the father of 11 children, 10 of whom survive with his widow: they are Charles of Calmar, Mrs. Agnes Ryan of Ft. Madison, Mrs. Rosalie Phillips of Calmar, Mrs. Vivian Eppens of Mason City, and Clarence, Donald, Genevieve, Aileen, Eugene, and Valerie, all at home. Also surviving are his parents, now of Luana; four brothers, Bert and Harry, both of Cedar Rapids; And Guy and Chet, both of Luana, five sisters: Mrs. Mae Edwards of Dubuque, Mrs. Minnie Ames of LaCrescent, Minn., Mrs. Grace Evans of Postville, Mrs. Artie Berg of Waukon, and Mrs. Eunice Taylor of Waukegan, Ill.; and 11 grandchildren.
