George Bigler, age 79, of Decorah, IA, died on Friday, September 4, 2015, at his home.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Locust, 1638 Big Canoe Road, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Nancy Solomonson presiding. Burial will be held at the Locust Cemetery.

Friends may call after 1:00 p.m., at the church on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of arrangements.

George Anton Bigler was born on May 10, 1936, the son of Elmer and Tilvina (Ellingson) Bigler on the family farm near Sattre, north of Decorah, Iowa. George was baptized May 31, 1936 and affirmed his faith November 18, 1951 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. George attended Pleasant #7 Country School, two years at Waukon High School and graduated from Decorah High School in 1955. George worked various jobs and places in his early days, but worked for Electrolux, selling vacuum cleaners for many years. George enjoyed skiing in Colorado and listening to his radio. He was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Locust.

George is survived by two sisters: Ethel Ellingson and Ellen (Douglas) Dickman, and two brothers: Roger (Evelyn) Bigler and David (Colleen) Bigler, all of Decorah, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents: Elmer and Tilvina (Ellingson) Bigler. Three brothers: Kermit Bigler in 1969, Kenneth Bigler in 2005 and Dr. Wilbur Bigler in 2013. One brother-in-law: Tom Ellingson in 2005. One nephew: Rodney Bigler in Nov. 1974.
