FRED WILLIAM HAGER

F. W. Hager's Funeral Held Tuesday, Dec. 10

Fred William Hager, son of Henry and Sophia Grotegut Hager was born May 9, 1887 in Ludlow township and passed away Dec. 7, at 1 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial hospital at Waukon at the age of 70 years. He was baptized at the Zalmona Presbyterian church in Ludlow township, June 26, 1887 by the Rev. Mr. Stark. He was confirmed in the Bethlehem Presbyterian church of Ludlow March 23, 1902 by the late Rev. F. W. Engelke and was a member of that church. Nov. 18, 1909 he was married to Caroline Debner at the home of her parents in Ludlow.

They were the parents of four children: Marie who died at the age of two years, Arthur who lives on the home farm and Raymond who died soon after birth.

He is survived by his wife, Caroline, his son Arthur of Ludlow township and his daughter Ruth, now Mrs. Leonard Geno of Lansing, seven grandchildren, three brothers, Otto and Elmer Hager of Castalia and Ed Hager of Waukon. There are also four sisters, Lydia, Mrs. Herman Nolting of Waukon; Helen, Mrs. Albert Henning of Ludlow; Sophia, Mrs. Earl Livingood of Decorah; and Hattie, Mrs. Melvin Ewing of Castalia. Preceding him in death are his two children, Marie and Raymond, three brothers, Henry, William and Johnny. His father passed away on the same date thirty four (sic) years ago.

Mr. Hager lived on the farm where he was born and raised until 11 years when he retired and moved to Waukon. He was active until several years ago and on Nov. 10, he was taken to the Veterans Memorial hospital in Waukon where he remained until his death.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the Bethlehem Presbyterian church with the Rev. Mr. John Bartell officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

Pallbearers were Reuben Nolting, Edgar Henning, Elmer Hager, Keith Hager, Gerald Hager and junior Hager. The flower girls were Mrs. Clarence Duvel, Mrs. Delbert Fiet, Mrs. Clarence Klocke and Mrs. Dale Kiesau.
