Funeral services were held Saturday, April 9, for Mrs. Alfred Blagen, 67, who died Wednesday afternoon, April 6, at La Crosse.
Services were held at 1:30 at the Steine Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery, the Revs. R.A. Ofstedal and B.A. Johnson officiating.
The pallbearers were Walter Forde, Paul Schneider, Arnold Peterson, Raymond Juve, Albert Hendrickson and Ross Dimmel. Members of the flower committee were Mrs. W.T. Symonds, Mrs. Raymond Juve, Mrs. Orval Hegtvedt, Mrs. Walter Forde and Mrs. Durwin Tweet. The soloist and organist were Miss Lois Grangaard and Vern Asleson.
Mrs. Blagen, who resided at 713 West Water Street in Decorah, suffered a fatal heart attack at the C.M. St. P. railroad passenger depot while waiting with her husband for her daughter, Melba, to arrive from Manitowoc, Wis. Melba planned to spend Easter with her parents in Decorah.
She was born January 24, 1888 in Pleasant Township, the daughter of John and Mary Istad. She received her education in Winneshiek County rural schools and Breckenridge College here. On October 23, 1907, she was married at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church to Alfred Blagen who survives. They have resided in Decorah for the past 28 years.
Also surviving are two daughters Melba Blagen of Manitowoc, Wis., and Ellen Blagen of Independence, Iowa, two grandchildren, one brother Arthur Istad of Decorah; and three sisters Mrs. Nora Juve of Decorah, Mrs. Ed (Etta) Lund of Sattre and Mrs. Charlie (Mabel) Tweet of Waukon.
One son, Nathan, died March 7, 1943. One brother John and two sisters Ida and Della also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Blagen was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the April Circle of the First Lutheran Ladies' Aid.Decorah Public Opinion, April 11, 1955
