Blagen, Alfred 1886 - 1959

Funeral services were held November 21 for Alfred Blagen, 73, retired Decorah farmer and businessman who died November 18 at the La Crosse Lutheran Hospital.
The Rev. Alvon Nelson officiated at the services held at 2 p.m. in First Lutheran Church. Arrangements were made by the Steine Funeral Home. Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Julian Moe, Durwin Tweet, Selmer Larson, Arnold Peterson, Walter Forde and David Schneider.
Music was provided by Mrs. Ransom Bolson, organist, Mrs. George Rowland, soloist, and a quartet composed of Roger Benrud, Peter Peterson, Joe Solie and Al Strom.
Those on the floral committee included Mrs. W.T. Symonds, Mrs. Alvin Huseby, Mrs. Raymond Juve and Mrs. Raymond Olson.
Alfred Blagen was born February 28, 1886 in Canoe Township, the son of the late Martin and Mathea Blagen. Educated in the rural schools, he married Amelia G. Istad October 23, 1907 at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church with the Rev. S.A. Scarvie in charge of the ceremony. She preceded him in death April 6, 1955.
He is survived by two daughters, Ellen Blagen and Mrs. Carl (Melba) Selland, both of Decorah. A son, Nathan, preceded him in death.
Two grandchildren, Sonja and Ronald Blagen; a sister, Mrs. Emma Blagen of Decorah, and a foster sister, Mrs. Mary Larsen of Oxford, Wis., also survive.
He was affiliated with First Lutheran Church.
