Les McCauley, age 75, of Decorah, IA, died on Monday, August 3, 2015, at the Green Lea Manor in Mabel, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 6, 2015, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 307 West Main Street, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Phillip Gibbs presiding. Burial will be in St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery, in Bluffton, IA.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah, IA, and also after 9:30 a.m., at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 307 West Main Street, Decorah, IA.

Memorials may be given to St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery, (Bluffton) 3175 – 253rd Avenue, Decorah, IA 52101.

Lester Peter “Les” McCauley was born on May 6, 1940, the son of Elmer and Gladys (Peterson) McCauley on the family farm near Bluffton, Iowa. Les attended Bluffton #7 Country School and graduated from Decorah High School in 1958. Les was united in marriage to Jean Garrett on June 27, 1964, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Bluffton, IA. Les hauled milk for Marigold Dairy and then worked for Frito-Lay for twenty-five years. Les farmed all his life near Bluffton as well as driving his delivery routes. After retiring from Frito Lay, Les then drove the Northeast Iowa Transit Bus. Les always enjoyed family gatherings of all kinds; especially Christmas. He cherished celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary with his family. Les also was an avid Hawkeye football and wrestling fan; he enjoyed watching his sons’ wrestle. Les loved his family and grandchildren and enjoyed going to all of their school and sporting activities. He liked to go out to eat with friends and was very fond of his dog, Blue. He enjoyed visiting and socializing with all and served as a Trustee for Bluffton Township. Les was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. Les entered the Green Lea Manor in Mabel, MN, in July 2014.

Les’ survivors include his three children: Kevin (Julie) McCauley, Center Point, IA; Steve (Cathy) McCauley, Algona, IA; and Michelle (Steve) Knudtson, Whitehall, WI. Nine grandchildren: Mason, Mitchell and Madison McCauley; Kelsie, Maggie, Michael and Molly McCauley; and Dylan and Samuel Hess. One great granddaughter: Jacie McCauley. One sister: LaVonne (Alvin) Darling, Burr Oak, IA. Brother-in-law: Keith (Mary) Garrett, La Crescent, MN. Three sisters-in-law: Lyn (Ron) Lysne, Decorah, IA; Joanne (Tom) Hovey, Decorah, IA; Joyce Garrett, Reno, NV, along with several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Les was preceded in death by his wife: Jean Garrett McCauley on August 25, 2014. His father and mother: Elmer and Gladys (Peterson) McCauley. His father-in-law and mother-in-law: Earl and Charlene (Lenz) Garrett. One nephew: Dan Darling.
