Dennis Henry Heying, 80, of Hawkeye, Iowa passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Rochester Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota with his loving family by his side.

Dennis was born at home in Festina, Iowa on August 3, 1934 to Joe and Rose (Bohr) Heying. He proudly served in the United States Army from November 1953 to November 1955.

On October 25, 1955, Dennis was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marion Bodensteiner, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa. Nine children were born to this union. Dennis farmed for 44 years, starting off outside of Lawler and then moving near Hawkeye in 1971 where he raised his family. After retiring from farming in 1998, Dennis was employed as a transit van driver for Northeast Iowa Community Action in Postville for 10 years. He was an active member of Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union, Knights of Columbus, and Hawkeye American Legion Post 312.

Dennis was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan and his family is proud to carry on his legacy. He also enjoyed golfing especially with Bill, Buck and Bruce; playing cards, listening to music and dancing with Marion. Dennis had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tease in a tender way.
