Death of Well Known Resident
Henry Hager died at the home to which he had retired in Frankville, on Thursday, Dec. 6. He was born Oct. 4, 1853, in Hoenhausen, Germany, his age being 70 years, 2 months and 3 days. When 13 years old he came to America with his parents who settled on a farm in Ludlow township. He was united in marriage to Sophia Grotegut on June 15, 1882, and to this union eleven children were born, one preceding him in death. He leaves to mourn his widow and ten children, namely: Mrs. Herman Nolting, Henry, Fred and Otto and Mrs. Albert Henning of Ludlow; Mrs. Earl Livingood and Willie of Frankville; Mrs. Melvin Ewing of Decorah and Edward and Elmer at home. Also 18 grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Stock, Sr., Mrs. Edward Bechtel of Ludlow, besides many other close relatives and friends.
Deceased was a member of the Zalmona congregation and later was one of the organizers and members of the Bethlehem congregation, of which he was an elder for 13 years.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Dec. 10, at one o'clock from his home, services being conducted at the Bethlehem church by Rev. Whitmeier and Rev. Peck of Frankville. The church was filled to its utmost capacity with over 400 people from far and near. The remains were laid to rest by the side of his son John in the cemetery near the church. May his ashes rest in peace.
