Howard Taylor, age 82, of Spillville died Monday, June 29, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2015 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, IA. with Father Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 2, 2015, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, 207 Church Street, Spillville, IA, and also after 10:00 a.m., on Friday morning at the church.

Howard Franklin Taylor was born March 26, 1933 to John and Christina (Jarosh) Taylor on the farm south west of Spillville. He attended Winneshiek Co. Country School and farmed with his parents. Howard was united in marriage to Clarabelle Hackman on May 31, 1955 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas. They farmed near Fort Atkinson for many years and then moved to Spillville. After they raised their eleven children, they extended their family by opening the doors of the Taylor Made Bed and Breakfast for an additional 20 years. Howard also worked at NICC in Calmar, IA until retiring in 1998. He loved spending time helping his sons plant corn, cut hay, and working in his large garden. He especially enjoyed day trips to the apple orchards in WI, going to auctions and day trips with his wife Clarabelle to see his children and grandchildren.

Howard is survived by eleven children: Howard (Laura) Taylor, Jr., Fort Atkinson, IA; Marilyn (Arnold) Huinker, Lakeville, MN; Dale Taylor, Tempe, AZ; Kay (Kent) Homnick, Pawley’s Island, SC; Lyle (Suzanne) Taylor, Spring Valley, MN; Joe (Christa) Taylor, Fort Atkinson, IA; Diane (Steve) Snyder, Lanesboro, MN; Dennis (Sarah) Taylor, Fort Atkinson, IA; Linda (Mark) Kuennen, Fort Atkinson, IA; Michael Taylor, Spillville, IA; and Kevin Taylor, Rochester, MN. Thirty-one grandchildren: Miranda (Jon) Hayek, Renee (Robert) Welter, Heather (Brandon) DeSotel, Vanessa Taylor; Kristin (Mark) Olmstead, Kari (Dan) Gerhart, Bryan (Rachel) Huinker; Holly, Jackson, Madison and Carson Homnick; Michael, Nicholas and Megan Taylor; Tracy (Nate) Leistikow, Tiffany, Felicity, Zachary and Kayley Taylor; Madeline, Emily, Benjamin and Isaac Snyder; Theo and Quinten Taylor; Morgan, Blake and Nathan Kuennen; Carter, Dylan and Austin Taylor. Nineteen great grandchildren: Brynlee, Brody and Brogan Hayek; Connor, Nolan and Taylor Welter; Abagail, Olivia, Jameson and Liam DeSotel; Alexis, Brooklyn and Olivia Olmstead; Gavin Gerhart; Ella, Claire and Carver Leistikow; KingSton and Tiarra Taylor. One sister: Arlene Klimesh, Decorah, IA, sisters-in-law: Camilla Taylor, New Hampton, IA, Alberta (LaVerne) Bouska, Lawler, IA, Jeanette (Elmer) Buchheit, Ossian, IA Mary Ann Hackman, Decorah, IA, and along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his wife: Clarabelle on February 11, 2015, parents: John and Christina (Jarosh) Taylor. His father-in-law and mother-in-law: Carl and Mathilda (Schmitt) Hackman. One great grandson: Michael Joseph Leistikow. Sisters: Angie Loesch and Harriet Frana, One brother: Richard Taylor. Sisters-in-law: Arlene Bouska and Ann Hackman. Brothers-in-law: Louis Loesch, Larry Frana, Stanley Klimesh, Cliff Bouska and George Hackman.
