Arla M. Kubik of Decorah, age 81, of Decorah, Iowa, died Thursday evening, June 11, 2015 at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, Iowa.

Memorial Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2015 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah with Rev. David Sorensen officiating. Inurnment will be in Union Prairie Cemetery in rural Decorah on Saturday, June 20.

Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Monday, June 15 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah.

Arla Mae (Folkedahl) Kubik was born on August 10, 1933 in the Spring Grove Hospital in Spring Grove, Minnesota, the daughter of Norton M. and Henrietta Dorothea Irene (Severide) Folkedahl. She was baptized August 27, 1933 at Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church by Rev. Heltne. Her sponsors were Oscar and Amanda Severide and Janet Thorson. Arla was confirmed December 14, 1947 at Decorah Lutheran Church by Rev. M. A. Egge and Rev. Sundby. She graduated from Decorah High School on May 24, 1951, with the Class of 1951.

Arla was united in marriage to Walter Kubik on January 3, 1954 in Caledonia, Minnesota and later divorced. This union was blessed with six children: Terry, Paula, Kim, Karla, Steve, and Mike.

Arla worked many years with her husband Walter, running the family business Refrigeration Supply Corporation. She also worked at Vick’s Tavern, Boikes Country Inn Restaurant in Ossian, and Viking One Stop convenience store in Decorah. She was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church. Arla enjoyed crossword puzzles and Sudoku, bowling, going to casinos (and winning), and cooking for family get-togethers.

She was preceded in death by her father Norton on January 29, 1980; her mother Irene on May 21, 1988; one son Terry on April 9, 2001; three brothers: Dale on December 9, 1965, Dennis on December 23, 2007 and Nels on May 23, 2015; and by one nephew, Russell Folkedahl on July 18, 1987.

Arla is survived by five children: Paula Cheever of Jackson, Missouri, Kim (Rob) Gossman of Decorah, Karla (Todd) Farland of Forest City, Iowa, Steve (Penni) Kubik of Frankville, Iowa and Mike (Melinda) Kubik of Charles City, Iowa; Iowa; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Sharon Folkedahl of Glendale, Arizona, Lois Lembcke of Saukville, Wisconsin, Colleen (Lloyd) Gossman of Decorah and Diane Lynne Folkedahl of Decorah; and one brother, Vincent (Bev) Folkedahl of Iowa City, Iowa.
