Robert Roney, age 13, of Decorah, IA, died on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 30, 2015, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 307 West Main Street, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Phillip Gibbs presiding. Burial will be in the Frankville Cemetery, Frankville, IA.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Friday, May 29, 2015, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue in Decorah, and also on Saturday morning after 9:30 a.m., at the church.

Robert William Roney was born on April 16, 2002, in Rapid City, SD, the son of David and Mary (Jundt) Roney. Robert attended Francis Case Elementary School in Rapid City. Robert liked to play outside, ride his bicycle fast, play hockey and play “little cars” with his twin brothers with the Ford Mustang always being his favorite. He enjoyed Thomas the Train as a younger child, making paper airplanes, drawing and playing his trumpet. Three years ago, he moved to Decorah and has attended the Decorah Middle School. He enjoyed his robotic class, reading and was a very bright, smart student. He also loved all the animals on the farm, especially the horse Snickers, and helping his adoptive brothers, Josh and Chris with their race cars. He was an avid San Francisco 49er’s fan and enjoyed getting dirty.

Robert is survived by his two sets of parents: David and Mary Roney, Gillette, WY, and Jeff and Doreen Roney, Decorah, IA. Robert’s grandparents: Joanne Roney, Decorah, IA; Marvin Jundt, Rapid City, SD; Dennis and Darlene Frana, Decorah, IA. His siblings: Shawn (Amy) Roney, Cheyenne, WY; Shana Roney, Cheyenne, WY; David (fiancé, Laura) Roney, Cheyenne, WY; Corlissa (friend, Nate) Roney, Rapid City, SD; Corey (fiancé, Carly) Roney, Rapid City, SD; Casey Roney, Decorah, IA, and Skylar Roney, Decorah, IA. Nieces and nephews: Mariah Roney, Justus Davis, Raylynn, Katelin and Matthew Roney. Robert’s adopted brothers and sisters: Chris Roney, Frankville, IA; Sarah (Clint) Lindell, Cresco, IA; Josh Roney, Frankville, IA; and Stephanie (Tony) Stoen, Decorah, IA. Seven adopted nieces and nephews: Gabby, Catrina, Damien and Caiden Bruns; Kaitlyn Schroeder; Raylee and Teagann Stoen. Robert’s uncles and aunts: Vicki (Robert) Kelly, Decorah, IA; William “Bill” (Patricia) Roney, Decorah, IA; Daryl (Wendy) Roney, Decorah, IA; Dan Roney, Decorah, IA; Mike (Lisa) Roney, Decorah, IA; Debbie (John) Cook, San Diego, CA; Donna (John) Viesman, Rapid City, SD; Chrissie Jundt, Rapid City, SD; and Jerry (Rachel) Jundt, Rapid City, SD. Robert is also survived by several cousins, aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles and great great aunts.

Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents: Robert Roney and Judith Jundt.
