Iowa Plain Dealer February 2, 1893, P5 C2

Walter E. Akers, formerly of Decorah, more recently of Minneapolis, was instantly killed in the railroad wreck near Kent, Illinois, last Saturday. Among the seriously injured, we observe the name of Lee J. Moss, late of Osage, now of West Superior, Wis. Two of Cresco were on the train, H. C. Burgess and his son Charles, but fortunately both escaped without injury. Mr. Akers was the Attorney of the Lumbermen's Association. The train of six cars went over an embankment of twenty feet, injuring many persons seriously, but we hear of no deaths but Mr. Akers, though it is believed that others were injured fatally.
